SPECTATORS
It attracts spectators from all the Province of Alicante, particularly from the large contingent of foreign residents in Benidorm, Calpe, Denia, Javea, Morarira, Benissa, Torrevieja and La Manga.
These are largely retired couples who have adquired a second home in the Province and generally enjoy a high level of disposable income. Local support is generally from amongst younger people who have intersted in other sports as web
TOURNAMENT DESCRIPTION
THE ANNUAL BENIDORM INTERNATIONAL RUGBY SEVENS has been run since 1987, and is organised by Villajoyosa Rugby Club (La Vila) with the support of Villajoyosa and Benidorm Councils, Tourist Board Costa Blanca and the Spanish Rugby Union.
It attracts the growong support of National and Club sides of the highest level, such as FIJI, NEW ZEALAND, FRANCE, ENGLAND, WALES, USA and CANADA, who all participate in the WORLD SEVENS SERIES, where Benidorm is aiming to take part from 2010 as ell as bidding to host the European Championships from 2008
The tournament´s aim is to promote all levels of Rugby in Spain and on the Costa Blanca. The three day competition is divided into two levels of Rugby:
INTERNATIONAL SIDES & CLUBS
All matches are played at VILLAJOYOSA Stadium, very near Motorway Exit nº 66 where there is adequate parking, bar and catering facilities.
Over the three days Friday Staurday and Sunday there are 64 games of Rugby played by the 32 sides competing.
All sides start in a league, the top two teams going trough to a knock out competition, culminating on Sunday with the finals.
Social activities include a Friday evening Welcome cocktail for all participants and after the Tournament,on the Sunday evening, a reception for the presentation of trophies.

The tournament receives full televisión coverage on TVE, TELEDEPORTE (National), CANAL 9 (regional) as web as CANAL + (national)
In addition there is full coverage in the international rugby press as well as national and international newspapers
THE HISTORY
The first ever BENIDORM SEVENS was played in 1987 at Villajoyosa RFC.
6 British teams and 4 spanish participate. First winner was GALA YM (SCOTLAND).
From its inaugural year in 1987 the tournament gained a reputation amongst Britain's junior Clubs. Over recent seasons there have been more frequent appearences by first class sides.
In 1992. Olympic year in Spain. The tournament was devised with three levels of competition: International. First Class Clubs and Junior Clubs. 12 National teams compete for the International Cup. FIJI won SAMOA in a electric final (16-15).
From 1996 the tournament is played at the Benidorm Municipal Stadium.
The BENIDORM 7´S is included in the European Sevens circuit, and is known throught the Rugby World as National and Club sides have appeared from aall continents of the world.
In its short history the Benidorm Sevens has become the most important Tournament in Spain as recognised by the offcial programme for the Rugby Sevens World Cup in 1993 and 1997.TIMETABLE
